Photo Size
The first points to remember are that your photos need to be the correct size and 'weight'.
As a rule of thumb
• web photos need to be 72 dpi
• the actual size wanted for viewing.
DPI stands for Dots Per square Inch. • For printing good quality photos one needs around 300 dpi. However that is like a brick made of lead.
• So 300 dpi is too 'heavy' a photo
for cyberspace ! 72 dpi is more like a brick of the same size made of foam.
Viewing Size:
Photos are usuallly sized in pixels [not axe-handles :-)]
This photo BELOW of Rita Cohann Marriage Celebrant Melbourne :
is of width = 145 pixels and of height = 179 pixels.
So if you want the photo to look bigger on the web page, its width will need to be greater.
For example double the sie would be 290 pixels width; 358 pixels height.
Photo Gallery Photos:
However as a rule of thumb, your photos need be no more that around 600
- 700 pixels wide or tall, depending on which ever is longer.
This larger size is what you will need to upload.
The Gallery Page software will generate a thumbnail size for you.
Re-sizing Photos Softare:
There are a number of software programs that alllow you to re-size photos. eg Photoshop Elements.
There are two commands to assist you here
1. RESIZE
This will allow you to change the width or height of your photo.
Usually this keeps the photo in scale, unless you choose another option
2. SAVE FOR WEB
Here the software will convert your photo to 72 dpi in either a .jpg or .gif file.
You then may upload the new file to your webpage.
