Civil Celebrations Network Incorporated
Key Projects for consideration
The Civil Celebrations Network Inc. has a number of key projects in consideration. These are not in any specific order of priority.
- Coming of Age Citizenship Ceremonies (or Affirmation of Citizenship) for all 18 year old Australian Citizens. The proposal is for a two pronged approach - A. Family based ceremonies supported by a government pack comprising of a Citizenship Certificate, Rights & Responsibilities Pack and Electoral (Voting Responsibilites & Registration for Voting) Pack as well as B. Community based Welcome to Citizenship Ceremony (supported by local, state and federal goverment, local community group).
- An Eldering Ceremony for those 'older' people wishing to make a commitment to a Creative, Caring and /or Community focused project for their "Third Age" years.
- A National Civil Partnerships Program under the Federal
Attorney General providing recognition without discrimination based on
gender or sexual orientation, for all couples aged over 18, to have
their relationship publicly recognised in ceremony, if they so choose,
and registered by the state Birth, Deaths and Marriages in a system on
par with the registrations of marriages under the Commonwealth Marriage
Act. Note: This project would include, but not necessarily be restricted to, the option of a change in the definition of marriage in the Commonwealth Marriage Act to: "Marriage is the union of two adults, to the exclusion of all others, entered into voluntarily for life" ie Marriage for
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex people.
- "Add a Ceremony to a Celebration" project to focus on the meaning of the occasion to
• strengthen and promote harmonious family and friendship relationships, and/or
• affirm and support individuals whose roles provide caring and support to others
• assist in recording personal, family and group his(her)stories for future generations
For example: Marriage Anniversaries, Birthdays, Mothers and Father's Days, Good Neighbour Days
- A Civil Chaplaincy project for appropriate civil celebrants to be trained to offer Chaplaincy work in schools. An education program could
* include Comparative Religion, Youth work and Pastoral Care
* examine the different definitions of "GoD" .. "GooD" .." Mystery" ... "Love" ... "Life " ... " Truth" etc
* compare and contrast the connections between Spirituality, Psychology, Ethics, and Religion,
* examine he stages of religious/ spiritual growth
* encourage chaplains to uphold civil and human rights and humane principles of living (care, courtesy, compassion, respect)
* encourage chaplains to encourage creativity and living life with love,
appreciation and inter-dependency with one's peers and community
* examine the role religions and the "state" can play for good or ill,
* and encourage chaplains to support young people to develop spiritual
values all nations agree to be good - respect, honesty, freedom,
personal responsibility, compassion, strength, flexibility, loyalty etc.
