Tracey M Smith - Civil Marriage Celebrant
Legal Information

Okay so now you are engaged but what do you have to do next to get married?

Provided both parties are over the age of 18 years you need to find a Marriage Celebrant with whom you feel comfortable.  Have a talk with them and make sure their goal for your day is the same as yours.  When you go to your celebrant make sure you take the following items with you:

                             - Birth Certificates

                                - Divorce papers if either of you have been previously married

                           - Death certificate of previous spouse

                           - If you are between 16 and 18 and wish to marry you will have to seek

special dispensation from a Judge or Magistrate

When you meet with your celebrant you should also take with you a completed Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) which he/she will then witness along with the certificates mentioned above.  You can download a NOIM at www.ag.gov.au/celebrants the link for the form is in Downloads in an orange box on the right hand side of the page. This form must be lodged with a celebrant no longer than 18 months prior to a wedding and no closer than one month and one day before.
